AUKEY True Wireless Earbuds
It the essential to remember
We welcomed the Aukey EP-T16S to our labs during our dossier In search of good true wireless headphones for less than $ 60. Reading this article will give you some context on this test and its condensed format.
The extremely attractive price of the EP-T16S did not suggest an incredible quality of manufacture. The design is indeed very simplistic for these headphones which use almost exclusively plastic. The assembly marks are also clearly visible. The headphones seem a minimum robust (incidentally IPX5 certified), but the assembly of the case seems very “cheap” like the glossy plastic used; be careful when handling it. This model is also not very comfortable. Due to their elongated design, the headphones take up a lot of space in the hollow of the pavilion and significantly support the cartilage, even in large ears. It is therefore difficult to keep them in place for more than 30 minutes.
The EP-T16S communicates via Bluetooth 5.0 with a master-slave system (the right earpiece is the main one). During our period of use, we have not detected any unacceptable defects concerning the stability of the connection. However, the communication latency is particularly high, which in fact limits its uses. It’s hard to follow a video, even when using a smartphone app that compensates for part of the lag.
The use is not the most pleasant, the fault of some ergonomic failures, like the use of touch panels – it very often happens that an action is triggered by wanting to replace them and they are not very reactive -, the impossibility of using the left earphone alone (and even less on another reading device) or the impossibility of manually switching off the earphones. Too bad, especially since the list of commands is relatively complete (with the two active headphones) and that many indications are integrated. The measured autonomy is particularly weak since it does not exceed the 3 short hours promised per charge.
Useless to go there in four ways: the sound performances of this pair of true wireless headphones are very disappointing. If it is not good management of the distortion, there is nothing to say positive on this point. The sound reproduction is very colorful and in no way mastered. The bass is soft and too much put forward. They, therefore, materialize under an indescribable shapeless mass that carries everything in its path with each attack. The mask effect is therefore important, many elements have a hard time standing out, especially the voices. We feel another peak particularly localized in the treble which highlights the shiny appearance and hissing in a rather unpleasant manner. This phenomenon is all the more audible and annoying that the acute extremes are absent subscribers. The stereo scene is particularly narrow both in-depth and in width.
Pros
- Good support.
- Complete orders.
cons
- Sound rendering too focused on the bass.
- Blatant lack of precision across the spectrum reproduced.
- Uncomfortable elongated design.
- Some ergonomic failures.
- Weak autonomy (around 3 hours per charge).
- Two headphones required to take advantage of all commands.
Conclusion
Failed transformation for EP-T16S. This pair of true wireless headphones fails in every way. No need to dwell on this model.
