Device control
The on-ears, which support the Bluetooth standard 4.2, are switched on using a slide switch on the right-hand side of the handset, which is also used for coupling, whereby stable ranges of over ten meters could be achieved in conjunction with various Android and iOS devices. The control works perfectly and the speech intelligibility when making calls has also been noticed positively by a clear display on both sides. The seamless switchover for multipoint connections is also a good solution, since, for example, you can switch between smartphone and tablet at any time if both devices are connected at the same time and playback is stopped.
Sound
The Bluetooth headphones have an extended frequency response from 16 to 22,000 Hertz; which is also noticeable in the basses, as they extend quite deep, have fullness, and represent a solid foundation. Particularly in the low-frequency range, however, there is a lack of precision and the start-up lacks impulsiveness. While vocals and lead instruments are attractively staged by the mids; the present heights drop noticeably, which is surprising given the range of images that are promised.
The overall sound image appears neither light nor dark, but there is a soft; slightly warm embossing and the sound is powerful, especially since the on-ears have fairly high output with good reserves. Although the AAC format supports a high-quality codec, However, the sound quality cannot completely convince me; since a certain fogging is perceptible, and the contours of the individual instruments do not appear clearly. Delicacy is therefore not one of the strengths of the Y500, but a solid, assertive sound is.
Ambient Aware technology
The Ambient Aware mode, which can be (de-) activated at the push of a button; makes it possible to remove the existing shielding from the outside world by significantly lowering the playback and perceiving the environment. The technology is helpful in order to be able to react to a specific situation without having to lift the handset. The playback level, on the other hand, appears too low for permanent use; since listening to music is no longer possible in a noisy environment such as public transport.
