Bluetooth connection
The Soundcore Spirit Pro In-Ears support Bluetooth version 4.2 and always provided a stable connection and a range of up to ten meters in a practical test with different Android and iOS systems. Trouble-free operation was also possible across several rooms, which is a very satisfactory result. The sports headphones are paired by holding down the central button, which initially turns the system on and then puts it into pairing mode.
Device control
The 3-button remote enables control of device functions such as starting and stopping playback, accepting and ending calls, regulating the volume and selecting tracks. It should be mentioned positively that the buttons are tactile, which unfortunately is not a matter of course. As a result, plus and minus buttons, in particular, can be distinguished visually, which simplifies operation. The central button controls the play / stop function and is used to answer and end calls. On the other hand, the volume is set using the plus and minus buttons, and the buttons can also be used for title navigation, by pressing and holding the plus button to jump to the next track and to go back using the minus button.
Design and scope of delivery
The headphones are surprisingly elegant. They were the cheapest solution in the test environment, but Anker still relies on aluminum and high-quality materials. There are two silicone components on the two headphones: the earplugs; Anker calls them “EarTips”, and the wings for fastening, the “EarWings”. The manufacturer includes six ear tips and ear wings in different sizes.
The two headphones are connected by a relatively thin cable, significantly thinner than the Bose Soundsport Wireless (test report) . There is not only a cable remote control including a charging socket with micro USB; but also an adjustment option to make the cable shorter or longer. The flat sides of the headphones are magnetic and can be clipped together comfortably in front of the neck. Very practical, so they don’t dangle unnecessarily when not in use.
The Soundcore Spirit Pro is Anker’s approach to sweat-resistant and waterproof headphones. They come with an IP68 certification, so they are not only protected against dust, but can also be permanently immersed. This is interesting because the micro USB port is not protected with a cap. In any case, they are protected against sweat even during longer workouts and can be easily washed under running water. Anker is silent about whether the headphones are also suitable for swimming; but we would not jump into the pool with them.
The headphones do not support a multipoint connection; at least in the test they could only be used with one device.
Comfort
Thanks to the silicone wings, the headphones are firmly in the ear. Together with the earplugs, they also hold your head firmly during sports, such as running or cycling.
In the test, we were able to wear them for a longer period of time without any problems. It is important, however, that you turn the aluminum body of the headphones a little after inserting them. They each have a small plastic knob opposite the cable connection, which could painfully pierce their ears. But you can turn it so that it is not noticeable.
During sports, we were disturbed by the cable between the headphones. The cable remote control on the right side ensures that it is pulled in this direction. The cable can be shortened at the back of the neck; but overall we liked the solution better with the Bose headphones or the OnePlus Bullet Wireless (test report to follow); especially on longer distances. Alternatively, you can fasten the cable in front of the body with the included clip.
Sound
The headphones deliver a beautiful, dynamic sound across the entire spectrum. Treble can be heard as well as the bass, which fortunately does not take over. Even with very bass-heavy songs like “The Weekend” by The Hills; you can still hear the rest of the song very well.
There is no app with setting options, instead, an equalizer is built into the headset. A long press at the same time on the volume up and the play button activates the different options. This works surprisingly well: the equalizer amplifies the bass, which ensures a pretty good rhythm especially when running. But even classic sounds like the “Habanera” from Carmen sounds pretty massive and full. Unfortunately, you can not see which mode the headphones are in, here only helps try.
Anker uses Qualcomm’s aptX technology. Most smartphones of the upper and upper middle class support the chipset, there is an overview on this page .
Note: Sound is always subjective and varies from ear to ear. In order to still be able to compare the headphones; we use the Spotify playlist ” Speaker Testing Tracks ” from Cambridge Audio, stored in the highest quality locally. In the blog , the creators explain very well why the selected titles are suitable for testing headphones and speakers.
With the microphone there is nothing to complain about. It works very well, the other person clearly understood us even when cycling.
Battery pack
The headphones are real cross-country skiers. In our practical test we were able to listen to music at 9:50 hours at full volume. Anker himself gives ten hours, so that goes well. It feels like the last 20 percent battery power went down significantly faster than the first 80. The headphones then play a short signal at regular intervals.
The headset is charged in around 40 minutes. This is faster than the Bose Soundsport Wireless (review) , but USB-C support would be a real asset here. Not only does it charge faster; with a USB-C to USB-C cable you could also charge the headphones from your smartphone.
Conclusion: moderate performance for the price
The Anker Soundcore Pro are good sports and all-round headphones. For the price, they deliver an enormously balanced sound with the option to emphasize the bass more. Adjusting the cable is a bit annoying, especially the cable remote control could be a little further in the middle. A thicker cable would also have been nice.
All in all, the headphones are very suitable for athletes, especially for the price.
