Audio-Technica ATH-LS70iS
The ATH-LS70iS is also equipped with a two-driver system, which Audio-Technica has dubbed the sonorous name “Dual Symphonic Driver”. Two 8.8 millimeter membranes take care of the sound conversion, one of which takes over the broadband spectrum, and the other supports the sub bass. The resulting frequency response is an impressive 5 Hz to 26 kHz and thus far exceeds human hearing. The in-ears have an impedance of 24.3 ohms and an input sensitivity of 113 dB per milliwatt.
Outward appearances
Unlike the LS50iS (for testing) with their different color variants, the LS70iS is only available in one version. This has a gray housing made of ABS resin with a subtle Audio Technica logo on the back. In terms of appearance and feel, the LS70iS, unfortunately, does not look particularly “noble”, which is mainly due to the tactile plastic and the relatively large gap (approx. 0.5 mm) between the two housing shells. The five asymmetrical corners of the case are striking. As edgy as it may look, the in-ear finds its place relatively comfortably in the auricle. The 1.2 meter-long connection cable is interchangeable and maintains firm contact with the in-ear via A2DC connections. At the ends of the cables, memory sleeves ensure that they can place over the ear with an adjustable bend, which further supports the firm fit.
Handling
Once you have selected the individually fitting earpiece, put the earphones in your ear, and bent the memory cable over the eavesdropper, the 6.5-gram in-ears are very comfortable to wear. The cable routing over the ear not only serves as a secure hold but also helps to dampen the structure-borne noise transmitted via the cable a bit. The button integrated into the cable is used to answer and end the call. In media player mode, he controls play/pause. We were able to use these functions reliably in the test with an Android phone.
Sound
In fact, the ATH-LS70iS has an audibly different set-up than the smaller sister model LS50iS. While the “five” are true bass monsters, the “seven” are much more civilized: a little more restraint in the bass meets a good deal more clarity and definition in the highs. Overall, this does the sound very well: It becomes finer and more differentiated, from which especially high-quality acoustic recordings benefit. This does not mean that it is not fun to hear bass-intensive music styles on the ATH-LS70iS – on the contrary: Bass frequencies that have their origin in electronic sound generators also reproduce the Audio-Technica flawlessly – just without this shovel “extra thrust “, Which friends of neutral, unobtrusive sound production will surely like.
Great comfort and clean sound
Two transducers in series, operated in parallel in housing, are intended to reduce membrane distortion and ensure a balanced sound. An 8.8 mm carbon-coated membrane in combination with a long voice coil is said to resolve audio signals particularly cleanly over a wide frequency range. Removable cables, an integrated remote control including a microphone, and a memory cable that can be individually placed around the ear and offer additional support ensure comfortable use. Both models will be released in March 2017. The ATH-LS70iS costs 149 euros, the ATH-LS50iS costs 99 euros. The technical differences between the two models are not apparent from the current manufacturer’s information.
The new LS series from Audio-Technica is designed to enable the sound of a live concert.MUsikgenuss en route rarely comes close to the sound experience of a high-quality sound system or even a live concert. This is exactly what manufacturer Audio-Technica wants to change with a new series of in-ear headphones. As part of the CES 2017 technology fair, the Japanese company presented the ATH-LS70iS and ATH-LS50iS models. According to the official press release, the new earplugs in plug format have been created based on professional in-ear monitors and are intended to enable a sound that only professional musicians otherwise experience on stage.

Three new models from the CKR series
As an alternative to the new LS series, Audio-Technica fans choose one of three new models from the CKR series. The flagship is the 399 euro ATH-CKR100iS with a two-phase push-pull converter to reduce harmonic distortion. The technology used is intended to ensure a particularly clear and detailed sound. Aluminum stabilizers are said to improve membrane movement and guarantee high-resolution sound images. According to the manufacturer, titanium housing prevents unwanted resonances. The cables of the headphones can remove, and should be particularly durable and well shielded.
It is also cheaper
The smaller model ATH-CKR70iS is significantly cheaper than the ATH-CKR100iS. Unlike the top version, the headphones do not have 13-millimeter converters, but only 11.8-millimeter membranes. You only pay 99 euros for the device. It is even cheaper with the ATH-CKR30iS for 39 euros. And also The entry-level version is equipped with 9.8-millimeter converters. Like the LS series, the new CKR models will appear in March 2017 and are equipped with in-line remote control.
