Best Garmin Instinct & Swim 2 Black Friday When the Garmin Instinct was introduced, I was immediately attached. Not only because Garmin is Garmin and therefore the wet dream of all athletes or people like me who are so reasonably athletic. No matter who you ask. Most athletes I know wear a Garmin.

But what was decisive for me was the commercial with the fireman. As some readers know, I work at the Frankfurt am Main fire department and so it should be the perfect smartwatch for me. The masculine look is mega robust, long battery life, and is still a complete smartwatch with all the trimmings.

Here I have picked some best Garmin Instinct & Swim 2 Black Friday Sales & Deals for you from the top brand Smartwatch.

Garmin Instinct Black Friday 2023 Review

Processing and equipment:

There is not really much in the packaging. In addition to the smartwatch, the charging cable, and brief instructions. But the box is quite large. No matter. Away with it.

The Garmin Instinct is robust. You can see that already. Nothing for women. Chunky but not big, even if it seems like it.

I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy Watch ( test report ) privately. In direct comparison to the Garmin Instinct, it is damn difficult. Even though the Garmin Instinct is extremely robust, it weighs surprisingly little.

It’s just 54 g. The Samsung Galaxy Watch weighs 84 g, and the Fenix 5 Plus from a colleague even 87 g. And you can clearly see that. Precisely because you probably wear such a smartwatch constantly on your arm. Don’t underestimate it.

The low weight of the Garmin Instinct is thanks to the housing made of fiber-reinforced polymer. It’s roughly plastic, but it doesn’t feel that way and really can take a lot. I have absolutely no scratches after almost a month. Nothing to see and, even though I often scraped the wall, fell down, etc.

The display sits somewhat recessed in the housing and is made of chemically reinforced glass. Here, too, everything is still in perfect order. And no. It is not a touchscreen. It doesn’t need it either. No rotating bezel either.

There are three buttons on the left and two on the right. As with many other Garmins too. The assignment is also identical. On the back the connection for the charging cable and the optical pulse sensor.

Connection and operation:

The app belonging to the Garmin Instinct is called Garmin Connect Mobile ( Android / iOS ). If you hike a lot or basically spend a lot of time outdoors, the Garmin Explore app ( Android / iOS ) is also recommended.

With the Garmin Connect link, you can view all the data in more detail in the browser. You also need Garmin Express for the PC. Updates are installed here, which I find quite cumbersome.

The operation of the Garmin Instinct is especially irritating for those switching from a smartwatch to a touchscreen. I kept tapping the display and/or turning the bezel. The Garmin Instinct is only operated using the 5 buttons.

And within a short time, you get the hang of it or the pressure, although it is not really logical. I would have assigned scrolling up and down to the two right buttons. The three left buttons than with Select, Back, and Quick Start. But never mind. works like that. It takes a little while.

The menu of the Garmin Instinct is incredibly extensive and it also takes a while to find your way around. The watch face can be adjusted a little. Restricted to predefined displays such as the battery, the position of which you can choose.ư

Practical test:

Unfortunately, I have to mention right away that a ligament tear the day before the arrival of the Garmin Instinct and a short time later a herniated disc forced me to completely stop my sports activities. Therefore, I could not fully test sports activities except for walks.

But I can report even more from everyday life as a smartwatch. And the Garmin Instinct won me over every second.

The crux of the matter is getting used to the operation using buttons and the nested menu on the Garmin Instinct itself and the app. But it sounds more dramatic than it is in the end. I like that you can determine the watch face or its displays yourself in certain areas. The app’s home screen can also be customized.

You can’t fool Garmin when it comes to counting steps and measuring your heart rate. No one has measured so precisely so far. If I walk 100 steps, the Garmin Instinct shows me exactly 100. The pulse deviates by up to 5 beats per minute, but this is absolutely tolerable. To do this, I had my pulse measured in the ambulance with a professional EKG.

In the end, the issue of the battery remains. Here too, the Garmin Instinct convinced me. The factory specification is 3 weeks and I “only” managed a little over 2 weeks, but everything was active for me. So permanent connection to the cell phone because of the notifications, pulse measurement, etc. Everything else makes no sense to me to wear a smartwatch.

And over 2 weeks are more than grateful, especially since the battery can be fully charged in an hour. It’s a shame that you need a special cable for this. But that’s bearable because you rarely have to charge.

Conclusion in the Garmin Instinct test:

If it hadn’t been for the Samsung Galaxy Watch a short time ago, the Garmin Instinct would be my smartwatch of choice. It looks good, is more like a normal watch than a smartwatch, can withstand a lot, is really waterproof, can do everything a modern smartwatch has to do, offers everything for active people (and more), lasts for a long time, and is also attractively priced.

Therefore I award the seal of approval and recommend the Garmin Instinct to everyone who wants to have a robust smartwatch but is not willing (or can) spend over € 400 for a smartwatch. Because the Garmin Instinct can do it all.
