The Jabra Elite Sport is similar to the Jabra Elite 65t (for testing), despite the similarity of the names, less than you would expect and they are significantly clunkier, which is certainly due to the one-sided heart rate sensor. In order to ensure the best possible fit in the ear, Jabra is no slouch and supplies extensive fitting material; as if there were three earmolds in S, M, and L either made of silicone or foam and three ear hooks that are intended to fix the expensive technology in the ear if you sweat a lot. Some might find it difficult to find the optimal combination since the in-ears themselves are quite large.
The sound without sport
When the Jabra Elite Sport is paired and the Jabra Sport Life app is installed; a friendly voice announces that you are assured that the heart rate has been detected. But before we get into the associated settings, adjustments, and possibilities of the app and the headphones, we simply listen to the music, which is a bit bass-lame out of the box and does not want to cause any real urgency in the head.
Here, too, the app helps, which offers a quick solution with a simply designed equalizer that immediately pretties the sound. With the advanced five-band equalizer, there is of course more and after digging out the bass there, I find the sound of the Jabra Elite Sport much more appealing than at the beginning, if not superb, as mids and highs still dominate clearly.
The sport with sound
What the app offers in conjunction with the in-ears is quite astonishing: First of all, you should create a profile with weight, height, and gender, grant access to the GPS, and raise awareness of different types of transportation – from running to skiing – and one does a few calibrations so the heart rate is recognized.
Then the route that has already been run or the kilometers traveled is recorded accurately. You can also have announcements made at pre-set intervals: how fast, how far, how high. In addition, you have the option of setting up various training units with goals and defining a pulse zone in which you can choose between burning fat, maximum stress, or relaxed trotting.
It becomes really exciting when you activate a circuit training that calls up and counts various exercises – partly with, partly without equipment – one after the other. Each exercise and its correct execution are viewed in advance in a demo video. In between, a friendly voice motivates and informs. The app generates informative progress analyses on the state of one’s own fitness from the data gained from the exercises and the heart rates determined. And you can still hear music during all of this.
The functions of sound and sport
The Jabra Elite Sport is controlled via four buttons, two of which are placed on the backs of the left and right earbuds; the left being used for volume and skipping; the right side is so extensively assigned with a multifunction and a sport button that a look at the documentation is essential.
