New housing, old shape
The Xtreme 2 retains the cylinder shape of its predecessor, but the case has received some improvements. Compared to the first generation, the connections are no longer hidden behind a zipper, but more easily accessible behind a flap.
This protects the power connection, the stereo input (3.5 mm jack), and the USB charging connection for tablets and smartphones. At this point, JBL has saved something: The Xtreme 2 only has one charging socket. There are two metal loops on the top, to which you can attach the included carrying strap. As with the predecessor, the control buttons on the speaker are positioned between the two loops.
This is how the box sounds
Two woofers are hidden inside the JBL box, which provide a lot of buzz. The bass is strong, but also a bit soft. The highs are precise, the Xtreme 2 reproduces voices slightly overcast. In the middle, however, the speaker sounds a little too quiet.

Not only is the sound image suitable for outdoors: the Xtreme 2 is waterproof compared to the first generation. However, the dive should not be deeper than 1 meter and should not last longer than 30 minutes. The battery lasted 18 hours and 55 minutes in the test. A day trip on the beach or in the park is no problem for the Xtreme 2.
Conclusion
In the test, the JBL Xtreme 2 turned out to be a good companion on the go. It has a waterproof housing, a long battery life of almost 19 hours and drowns out almost any ambient noise. The bass is strong and the treble is very present. However, the mids are a bit too quiet and the overall sound is too soft. The Xtreme 2 also casts voices somewhat obscured.
The box delivers stereo sound on its own, but another JBL box can be coupled via the free app; so that a stereo pair is created. As extras, the JBL Xtreme 2 offers a stereo input and a USB charging socket for smartphones and tablets.
