Best Kygo A9 / 600 Black Friday And Cyber Monday
Matte plastic applications on the earcups and lacquered shell suspensions complete the picture positively. It is operated via a touch surface on the right ear cup. You swipe through the songs or adjust the volume. It works intuitively and reliably. The scope of delivery includes a soft transport bag, a fabric-jacked jack cable to connect the headphones directly to a mini jack output, and a USB cable to charge the handset. Unfortunately, the A9 cannot be used to listen to music in parallel with the charging process because there is permanent digital noise in the right earbud – the USB socket for charging is also located there. With a battery life somewhere between 15 and 23 hours, this fact is somewhat impractical but can be tolerated in everyday life.
Sound
In terms of sound, the flagship from Kygo presents itself as a solid all-rounder. The sound is open, the stage is pleasantly wide. The bass is precise, powerful, and not overloaded, even if you note that a rather youthful, bass-loving audience is the target group. The heights are present. The listener feels at home with any music style. Bass-heavy music is his linchpin, such as Kendrick Lamar’s “Loyalty”, in which he impressively shows how well he is doing with the bassline and bass drum. But he also likes jazz, pop or rock. The foggy choir synth surfaces in Prefab Sprout’s “When Love Breaks Down” lie silky over the piece, while the round bass foundation unobtrusively but clearly gives the piece structure. In acoustic pieces, the listener shows the necessary amount of closeness and detail.
Practice
Similar to the A6 / 500, the large A9 / 600 also has an app for Android and iOS. With the app, firmware updates can be played on the headphones – for example, to carry out Bluetooth updates or to adapt the app integration.
In addition, the app offers four equalizers presets between which you can cross-fade as well as a switchable bass boost. The adjustments via the mobile app also work if the headphones are connected to the computer, for example. The EQ presets are not named for musical genres as is often the case. Instead, city names (which are also explained) should bring you closer to certain sound settings. Ibiza stands for a dance-oriented sound, for example, while New York offers adaptations for black music.
The EQ grabs neatly and changes the sound noticeably. Unfortunately, the presets do not fit all pieces, which can sometimes sound nasal or muffled. The Bass Boost puts another huge shovel on the bottom. For some music genres, the EQ is more a gimmick than a useful tool. As a rule, the EQs of your desktop or telephone player will get you to the result faster and more appropriately.
Telephoning is not the strength of the A9. Even if the sound in the headphones is very good, the called parties complained about digital noise in the transmission.
The Kygo A9 / 600 is heavy but easy to control
The A9 / 600 is a visually unobtrusive, but very nicely processed Bluetooth headphone. The soft ear pads completely surround the eavesdropper. The pressure around the ears is higher than in many other models, despite the rather thick pads – but after a short time, you get used to it.
At around 313 grams, the headphone is also one of the heavier candidates; a Sennheiser HD4.40 BT, for example, only costs a mere 227 grams. There is an NFC chip in the headphones, which enables quick pairing with suitably equipped Android smartphones.
Once connected, there is a touch surface on the right side of the headphones that are used for music control and answering calls. With tap and swipe gestures, you jump a track forward or back and simply turn the music up. That worked very well in the test.
Kygo A9 / 600 can be adjusted via an app
For the smartphone, Kygo also provides an app that can be used to update the firmware of the headphones on the one hand and to adjust the sound via the equalizer on the other. The latter is actually not necessary, because smartphones usually offer plenty of setting options for the sound.
And more importantly, the neutral sound tuning from the Kygo is quite successful, as the test shows. He also masters the aptX and AAC coding methods. So if the smartphone delivers the music with the same codec, the transcoding, which is otherwise harmful to Bluetooth, is eliminated.
Kygo A9 / 600: The bass is set
Tropical House creates a good atmosphere, and the Kygo A9 / 600 also transports it. With deep and powerful basses – which do not sound exaggerated – the headphones formed a good basis for everything a song had to offer.
The Kygo headphones reproduce the upper area in great detail, voices sound natural but occasionally buzz at maximum volume. The middle is clear, the lower ones just a little too quiet. All in all, the Bluetooth headphones tend to play warmly – in keeping with the DJ’s musical style.
Conclusion: The Kygo A9 / 600 is well made, sits tight but pleasant on the ears, and sounds clean with finely metered bass and natural voices. The control via the touch surfaces works well, the battery life is almost 22 hours.
