Libratone Track Air+ True Wireless Active
The lightweight IPX 4 earphones that protected against splashing water and sweat are available in black and white. They have a small, stylish, silver-colored extension towards the earlobe, in which the two microphones are usefully housed and which thus ensure good speech intelligibility during calls. As usual, the listeners find a home in a small transport case that also serves as a charging port and charging station. There the listeners snap into the fits magnetically.
Bluetooth 5 and aptX codec has the Track Air + onboard, but aptX HD / LL or LDAC is not part of the offer. For the controls, Libratone is limited to a configurable tap function per handset (double tap on the outside). This is configured via the free iOS / Android Libratone app. In addition, the app offers a battery status display, a voicing EQ with three modes, and the “Noise Canceling / Ambient Monitoring” area. Firmware updates can also be installed on Track Air +. Libratone has already announced support for the AAC codec, which is the better choice compared to the SBC codec previously used on iOS.
Thanks to the four fitting pieces supplied, the low weight, and a construction that does not protrude too far from the ear, this results in good wearing comfort for me, which does not squeeze even during longer listening sessions. At the same time, the seat is safe enough for sporting activities. Depending on the area of application, it is also possible to work with just one handset, for example when making calls in the car.
With six hours, the listeners offer a practical battery life, especially since the case again has capacities for up to three full charges. Depending on the volume and the use of noise suppression, you can achieve a total playing time of up to 24 hours before you have to charge using the supplied USB-C cable. Saving energy also helps the possible automatic switch-off (Wear Detect) of the headphones when removing them from the ears. And finally, the optionally available inductive charging station coil is also supported. Pairing takes place from the case. The Track Air + offers a stable and quickly established connection that has proven itself in everyday mobile life. The range, however, is rather manageable and breaks off on a staircase floor.
The app is clearly laid out. On the other hand, the tap functions on the device can be expanded. The following functions are available for each page: Starting and pausing playback, switching the noise-canceling mode, title jump (forward, not backward), and calling the voice assistant on the smartphone. Calls can generally answer and end using the function. However, the volume cannot control. Generally, I found the double click on the earphones a bit annoying; because the sound is transmitted to the eardrums.
The integrated system for suppressing ambient noise works mainly in the bass range. It can adjust manually, but it can also automatically adapt to the environment, albeit a little less differentiated. In addition to the passive damping, the active partitioning, especially in resting positions, intensifies the enjoyment of the music or, without music, a certain partitioning off of disturbing, especially static and low-frequency external noises. There is no feeling of disturbing insulation, but the degree of shielding is not extreme even at maximum intensity. Track Air + is still a good choice for use when traveling.
The perception of the surroundings can increase with the “Ambient Monitoring” function. Here, for example, the music level is lowered using the tap function, and external noise is mixed into the hearing path via the microphones. This makes it easier to communicate without putting the handset down. Very convenient.
The general impression of the Track Air + is convincing. Here you will find an effortless, rich and powerful sound with enough definition and clarity, which is pleasantly balanced and level when needed.
The bass sounds clean, powerful, and warm, but also slightly overemphasized. For this, the listener delivers a well recognizable tonality down to the deep bass. In the middle, the dynamic 5.3 mm drivers work with an equally warm tendency; that flatters women’s and men’s voices and acoustic instruments, but also adds sufficient contours and intelligibility. In the upper frequencies, the Track Air + is detailed and open. It never sounds snappy, rather a bit too good-natured.
The width of the room is safe and detailed. Space in the form of reverberation can be identified well, but real depth gradation is less so. After all, the test device deserves a good grade due to its dynamic mapping. Even quiet classical passages are clearly audible. In summary, the Track Air + delivers an appealing performance, which I would not like to call audiophile but definitely for the mobile application area, and the price range as pleasingly high. The tuning is a bit “bold” in the bass and slightly tamed in the treble, so pleasing (with neutral voice EQ). This gives you a powerful and fun listening experience for mobile use.
