Best Mackie CR-Buds Black Friday And Cyber Monday
Mackie are launching two in-ears that are aimed at both musicians and “normal” listeners. On offer are the inexpensive CR-Buds tested here and the more expensive CR-Buds + (for testing).
Technical
Mackie goes traditional ways with the CR-Buds and equip them with a dynamic single full-range driver. They achieve a frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. As a result, the listener comes up against the amplifier with a relatively low impedance of 16 ohms, but it only achieves an input sensitivity of 95 dB per supplied milliwatt of current. Comfort functions include a hands-free microphone integrated into the cable, including a button for answering/hanging up, which also acts as a play/pause in media player mode.
Outward appearances
The small black headphones are largely inconspicuous: the black plastic housing looks factual and serious. The Mackie logo, which is surrounded by a shimmering green ring, ensures brand awareness. Mackie advertises the 1.2 meters long, flat connection cable as “tangle-free”. In practice, I noticed no significant difference to a standard cable in the test. In fact, the tangle-free cable tends to hold a bend that is forced on it (for example, if it is crumpled up in your pocket) for a long time. The package includes three interchangeable silicone earmolds in sizes S, M, and L.
Sound
A listener from a brand manufacturer whose street price is just over twenty euros is, of course, met with a good dose of curiosity, but also healthy distrust. However, the doubts disappear after a few minutes, because the Mackie CR-Buds do a great job – considering the price. Their basic characteristics are rather neutral – I would say “medium-range” if there was this adjective. Basses pay enough attention to the CR-Buds, but without putting them at the center of the action. Mids and highs are staged amazingly clean on the stereo stage. The very high crispy glitter silver gloss range, which is also known as “air band” among sound engineers; is somewhat overlaid by the somewhat sharp high mids at higher volumes.
Note:
Nevertheless, the sound production is really useful considering the price. The only downside: the CR buds lack a little agility. I would like to leave it open whether this is due to the relatively low input sensitivity or the author is spoiled by modern 2-way driver systems. The fact is: In some cases, you want a little bit more impulsive power and definition in the transients so that the sound echoes a little more vividly and vividly from the drivers.
But well – somewhere the price is noticeable. The call acceptance and operation of the media player via the integrated function key worked without problems and the speech intelligibility via the microphone was satisfactory.
Handling & areas of application
As expected, the Mackie CR-Buds are not as secure as the CR-Buds + due to the lack of an earloop function on the cable. Thus, the headphones are suitable for on the go, but only to a limited extent for use in sports. In terms of volume, they cut a good figure on smartphones, tablets, and media players. And the integrated remote is quite sufficient for my taste. The answer button on the remote control works without any problems … also for the play/pause function of the audio playback. The sound quality of the integrated microphone (unlike the CR-Buds +) does not weaken S sounds too much. This makes speech intelligibility good for the other party on the other end of the line.
Conclusion
First of all, I can give the all-clear: The bone do tester’s eyebrow, which was initially raised critically; has gradually decreased over the course of the Mackie CR-Buds’ practical check. In fact, Mackie doesn’t promise too much in terms of sound here. These in-ears actually offer great sound for little money. In my opinion, the sound of the CR-Buds is even a little surprising for the price.
Especially friends of sub bass in pop, EDM, and urban music will have their bright or rather their bassy joy with these in-ears. On the other hand, if you like rock and metal; you should definitely try these headphones before buying because the middle of guitar music can sound “sawing”, especially at higher volumes. Together with the flat cable, A simple remote control for smart devices and the usual Mackie quality in design and workmanship is available for purchase.
