Best Razer Hammerhead Duo Black Friday And Cyber Monday

The pitch-black Hammerhead Duo features a dynamic driver for bass / mid-range and a balanced armature driver for high-frequency reproduction in a common housing on each side. The manufacturer wants to achieve a stronger sound reproduction with less distortion and improved image fidelity. Not an unusual concept, but rather rare in the price range of around 60 euros. The drivers are housed in robust aluminum housings. The plugs can adjust to the ear size with three somewhat fiddly silicone ear tips.

The wired headphones have an inline remote control on the right-hand side of the connection cable with an angled and gold-plated 3.5 mm plug, which is protected with a fabric jacket in the lower area.

Incidentally, the model is available in two versions: the present test model and a version called “Razer Hammerhead Duo – Compatible with the Nintendo Switch”. As the name suggests, this externally somewhat different version, which comes with a bag, is aimed at gamers who can communicate with each other even during games via the built-in microphone with a mute function.

Practice

The straightforward construction offers good and safe wearing comfort. Due to the pleasantly lightweight, the Hammerhead Duo can also be comfortably worn over the long term. The passive external insulation is adequate.

The 3-button remote control allows for quick volume adjustment using dedicated buttons. The middle button can use to start and stop music playback, answer and end calls and call up the voice assistant in the smartphone. Furthermore, jumps between titles are possible by multiple clicks. The voice quality via the integrated microphone is good in both directions but disturbed by cable noise when moving.

Sound

The headphones deliver rich listening pleasure. Its full and perfectly coherent sound is fun but is not necessarily neutral. Conversely, the powerful sound for the mobile area is also desirable in certain genres or applications (films/games). The Hammerhead Duo plays loudly when needed but fortunately doesn’t bother the neighbors.

The bass area in particular turns out to be strong but is still tight in its contours. This also allows the tonality and dynamics to be clearly understood. Basses are reproduced; but not always undistorted depending on the level. The central middle area drops slightly compared to the bass, which could lead to a loss of details depending on the genre. Acoustic instruments and voices in particular could sound more concise here.

The same applies to the height range; which tends to be reproduced round and not snappy. The Hammerhead Duo still provides good transparency, but sometimes lacks grip in this area. A three-dimensionality and clearly recognizable contour in the upper frequencies are therefore not among the strengths of these headphones; although the stereo stage is well fanned out.
