Best SONY SMARTWATCH 3 Black Friday – I recently tested the Samsung Gear S. At the same time, a sample of the Sony Smartwatch 3 was available to me; so of course a few comparisons have become apparent. But everything is in order: The Sony Smartwatch 3, just like the Gear S, came onto the market in late 2014. They are available both in a more classic version made of stainless steel and the sporty version with a silicone strap.
The latter version was available to me for the Smartwatch test. I would now like to share my experiences with the wearable with you. It should be mentioned that the Sony Smartwatch 3 does not have its own SIM slot, and can therefore only show its strengths in conjunction with a smartphone. Android Wear serves as the operating system – at the time of testing, I used the OS in version 5.1.1. Also the usual interfaces like GPS,

SONY SMARTWATCH 3 Black Friday Review
The design of the packaging pleases: The Sony Smartwatch 3 is delivered in a transparent plastic housing on a kind of base. In addition to the watch itself and the silicone bracelet, a USB / micro USB cable and a few small information sheets are included. A power supply is, unfortunately, missing so you have to connect the Sony Smartwatch 3 to existing power supplies, Smart Charger, or PCs as power sources using the included cable. Well, you can live with that. Due to the silicone strap, this gadget is more reminiscent of typical sports watches and can also be worn while jogging and other sweaty exertions without disturbing. If you want to remove dirt from the watch, you can easily remove it from the bracelet. The reinsertion is a bit fiddly but is easy after two times.
Unfortunately, one of the most important elements of a smartwatch appealed to me the least: the screen. In contrast to the Asus Zenwatch, the LG G Watch R, or the aforementioned Samsung Gear S, the Sony Smartwatch 3 uses an LC display. And the viewing angles are just not very good. Especially since you wear the watch on your wrist, you don’t always have the screen straight in front of your eyes. In practice, this leads to the fact that one usually sees an overexposed image, because especially a minimally rotated viewing angle from the right or left leads to problems with stability.
Android Wear, at around one and a half years old, is still a relatively young operating system. And some teething troubles are clearly noticeable on the OS for wearables. This is reminiscent of the early stages of Android for smartphones. In contrast to its big brother, Android Wear currently looks homogeneous on all smartwatches. Where manufacturers with their own interfaces such as TouchWiz, Sense or especially Amazon distort beyond recognition with the Fire OS Android, Google currently denies its partners at Android Wear similar freedoms.
Voice messages can also be recorded, which in my review worked quite well even in a shopping arcade. I still got a few glances, smartwatches aren’t that common yet, but it’s always worth it for a quick, recorded message. By the way, fitness activities can not only be evaluated via Google Fit but of course also optionally via Sony’s own Lifelog or other apps such as Endomondo. Additional features, such as those known from Garmin’s models, are missing, however.
Incidentally, I also like the comfort of the Sony Smartwatch 3 after weeks of use. The watch is light and small enough that I could use my bike to cycle through the city, go shopping, sit in a café with friends and also take an afternoon nap without the watch annoying me. That’s a lot of value because I would have had to take off the Samsung Gear S in any case before going to sleep.
Chic is different – the Sony Smartwatch 3 is by no means a beauty. But the comfort is excellent and the gadget is a pleasant companion, especially during sports. The integrated GPS makes the watch particularly suitable for joggers. Even swimming shouldn’t be a problem thanks to IP68 certification. Android Wear also offers more customization options and broader app support than Tizen, for example, which could prove to be an advantage in the long term.
Currently, the operating system still suffers from many teething problems: Why I can’t simply feed the Sony Smartwatch 3 with music via PC; but instead has to forcibly synchronize my smartphone with Google Music, and then make the songs available offline on the Smartwatch remains a secret from Google. Sony cannot do anything about it directly, only the shortcomings inevitably also affect the present Smartwatch 3. The battery life is disappointing and the really bad viewing angles of the LC display immediately catch the eye. OLED technology definitely seems to be preferable for smartwatches.
Nevertheless, the Sony Smartwatch 3 is a pleasant and above all unobtrusive companion. The watch is ideal for checking notifications, speaking short messages, and, above all, sporting activities. For example, the microphones work reliably even in quiet streets and the system performance is smooth. Anyone who accesses here and can live with the weaknesses mentioned will be quite happy with the Sony Smartwatch 3.
