Best Ultrasone Pro 1480i Black Friday And Cyber Monday
The design of the Pro 1480i fits seamlessly into the product range of the Bavarian headphone specialist and; like the sibling models, has a solid bracket as well as tiltable, swiveling, and retractable headphone shells. So there is a good adaptation to the head shape and the over-ears offer sufficient portability even on the go. However, the seat appears unusually tight for an open system, which allows an intermediate sprint in mobile applications without the headphones slipping.
For editing or for the mixed analysis, however, I would have liked more comfort, especially since the firm fit in stationary operation with an open design offers no advantages. A soft, comfortable velour cover of the upholstery of the model made in East Asia, on the other hand, is more forgiving. It is also gratifying that the earpads are user-friendly replaceable and can replace if necessary. The long, included spiral cable with gold-plated plugs is also interchangeable, which is screwed to the left headphone cup so that it cannot be accidentally removed. In this respect, a shorter cable can also be used in conjunction with mobile devices, but this must be purchased separately.
On the material side, the medium-weight system with a weight of 305g (without cable) is largely made of plastic, which unfortunately does not look particularly noble, but still gives a robust impression. The build quality appears mostly solid. However, I noticed that the ball joints can hook while the pull-out rails run smoothly and smoothly for size adjustment. In view of the price, however, I don’t like details such as an insufficiently sized opening for the cable connector.
Sound
The Pro 1480i has a bright, clear, and clean sound image with a relatively neutral sound character. Anyone who produces hip-hop, R’n’B or electronic music will miss the deep bass range. The presence of the otherwise defined bass is in the upper bass range and extends into the fundamental range. This is followed by a good, emphasized mid-presentation, which puts vocals slightly in the foreground and at the same time is relentlessly honest. In combination with the non-glossy heights, sibilants and existing hardness in the audio material are precisely worked out so that they can be worked on.
The strength of the open system lies in the spatial representation, although the over-ears themselves have a compact stereo stage. The listening room is therefore much longer than it is wide and has a clearly perceptible height. I feel like I’m in an old building with high ceilings rather than in a new building. Individual signals can be precisely located and displayed in a pulse-accurate manner. The over-ears, on the other hand, weaken the resolution, which is acceptable but not particularly high. Compared to high-impedance studio headphones, the Pro 1480i sounds overcast. It is also striking that the model radiates significantly louder to the outside than comparable open systems. For work or listening to music on air travel.
Ultrasone Pro 1480i: Construction
The Ultrasone Pro 1480i is a dynamic headphone in an open design with circumaural ear cups and a weight of 295 grams without the cable. Like the predominantly closed relationship of the manufacturer’s Pro series; the 1480i also has a practical folding mechanism that facilitates transport and storage.
Processing
Ultrasone’s open studio headphones are not a particular eye-catcher, the design is too arbitrary and the material mix of the ear cups is too “basic”. With a professional device, however, other virtues such as the robustness of the construction and a correspondingly high level of reliability and life expectancy are much more important! The stable Ultrasone Pro 1480i does not reveal any weaknesses or processing errors here. In addition, the predominantly screwed attachments and the upholstery can easily replace if necessary. The entire bracket and joint construction resemble my battle-proven Ultrasone Pro 580i; which works reliably for me as a closed monitor headphone.
Equipment features
The Pro 1480i has a spiral cable (3 m), which is attached to the left ear cup with a screwable 3.5mm jack plug. At the other end of the cable, there is also a mini-jack plug with a screw adapter to 6.35 mm, whereby all plugs/adapters are gold-plated. In addition, a nylon transport bag is included with the Ultrasone headphones.
Ultrasone 1480i: technology and key figures
The technology of the Pro 1480i is based on the conventional electrodynamic converter principle and is equipped with S-Logic-Plus technology; which is characteristic of the Bavarian manufacturer’s headphones. The transducers are arranged decentrally, creating a special directionality; and acoustic integration of the ear cups, which should come particularly close to reproduction via loudspeakers. More on this in the practical section. The other technical details are free of any abnormalities. The specified transmission range of 20 to 20,000 Hz exactly covers the human hearing range and the low impedance of 32 ohms follows; the general trend that enables problem-free operation at the headphone outputs of mobile playback devices.
