V-Moda Crossfade M-100 Master Black Friday Review
Optionally, the cables reinforced with textile and aramid fibers are docked onto one of the two capsules using a mini-jack. This means that the two straight cables supplied, one as a SpeakEasy version with a microphone for smartphones, can be replaced in the event of wear. Another special feature: A second headphone can be connected to a mini jack socket at the end of the black 1.5-meter long cable in order to tap the signal via the same headphone output.
The comfort
Circumferential headphones are considered to be bulky. But the Crossfade M-100 Master feels more like an on-ear when worn. Because the capsules look quite compact and clasp my average-sized ears very well, without offering them too much leeway. The drivers are also literally on the ear, which also plays well with its sound. However, if you have big ears, it could be tight because the cushions are then on your ears. In general, the headphones are also recommended for very small heads, because the very stretchy headband is narrow and fits tightly.
The low weight, the soft headband, and the replaceable, very lavishly padded earpads compensate for the self-confident pressure of the strap. That gives security. Even with violent head movements and when the flexible bracket is turned on one side by the ear, it does not move out of place. I don’t miss a swivel joint for one-ear monitoring, which the manufacturer does without. Unusually, the headphones are completely rigid in their y-axis. The capsules only adapt to the ear position with the hinge around the x-axis on the capsule suspension, as well as with the extendable, solid bracket.
With the second hinge as a link between the bracket and the suspension; the capsules are only folded into the case for space-saving transport. The sound
The 50 mm double-membrane drivers installed in the Crossfade M-100 Master present an above-average wide frequency response. From ultra-low 5 Hertz, which are only perceived as an impulse, to extremely high 40,000 Hertz. Although not audible in the full range by the human ear, this ensures an extremely high-resolution sound image. For the test, there are massive attacks “Protection” on the ears: the intro of drums and fat bassline takes me noticeably.
Tracy Thorn’s crystal clear voice gracefully balances on this groovy carpet. He also brilliantly depicts, for example, the bell-like, pointed transients in Bob James’ “Winchester Lady”. He devotes a lot of warmth to organic instruments. In general, the sound is very balanced and natural. Its bass adapts very well to the restrained mids and the concise but not exaggerated highs. Therefore, the headphones are also suitable for production in the studio area.
With the Crossfade M-100 Master, you literally forget about your surroundings: its closed design shields very well from disturbing noises outside the capsule; and the signal hardly diffuses to the outside. The volume does not have to be adjusted, even if it does; it sends a solid signal to the drivers with its 103-decibel sensitivity and 40.75-ohm impedance (averaged). This pays off, especially when used with smartphones; which is also recommended thanks to the included cable and microphone. Optionally, the manufacturer offers another cable including a remote.
Custom metal plates
More and more DJs also want to design their headphones according to their wishes or even personalize them with their artist names. With the interchangeable capsule plates, V-Moda also offers various designs with 3D printing or engraving. Another unique selling point for these extraordinary headphones.
